Kids' Tech University
KTU is a program designed to create interest in STEM for children between the ages of 9 and 12. I often organized booths with graduate students from the Department of Biomedical Engineering and Mechanics. The booths exhibit a variety of physical phenomena, most notably simple classic physics experiments, "strange" fluid mechanics, and creepy crawly cockroaches. My main goal is to instill curiosity and wonder, and demonstrate that good science doesn't always need fancy laboratory equipment.
Graduate Engineering Mechanics Society
GEMS is a graduate student organization with the goal of improving the visibility of the Engineering Mechanics program and providing activities for socialization and professional development. I was a committee member within the Social and Outreach programs, where I help generate ideas for events and put those ideas into action.
Blue Ridge Mountain Science Fair
I volunteered as a judge at the Blue Ridge Regional Science Fair, which unites K-12 students from across Southwest Virginia. My responsibilities were to determine winners for the ASM International Foundation Award, I-SWEEP Awards, and the Manufacturing Technology Center Award.
